Location. That’s what piqued the interest of Joe and Missy Walsh. They found a sprawling property close to the nation’s capital that offered space for their three boys to grow and a dwelling place with potential—a design blogger’s dream scenario. “Mary Douglas Drysdale worked on the designs with the previous owners, so there was already so much to love about it,” says Missy. “We thought, ‘This is it, our forever home.’”

Missy Walsh, the woman behind the popular style blog Perch, has been decorating and renovating homes for more than 20 years. Upon acquiring this property in Potomac, Maryland, in 2005, she set about the careful work of transforming the space to suit her family. “I’m constantly asking myself how we can make this a place people want to be,” she says.
